Lasifashaj and Gable Island, an exclusive adventure
Patagonia-argentina.com proposes a new excursion in Tierra del Fuego, a mystical
excursion that includes forests, the Beagle Channel, the Gable Island and
the penguin habitat on the Island Martillo. And all of this begins with you
rowing
down the beautiful and calm river Lasifashaj...
This nontraditional excursion will transport you to the most beautiful, rustic
and picturesque areas of Tierra del Fuego.
You will leave Ushuaia for
the National Route #3 and continue for the complementary route J. During this
ride of approximately 75 km you will be able to observe
trees contorted and twisted into incredible shapes due to the Patagonia wind.
They are known as "Árbol Bandera" (Flag tree).
Further ahead, on the shores of the river, we will inflate
canoes and begin to paddle the meandering Lasifashaj river, whose shores are embraced by forests
and whose sky is filled with hundreds of birds. . .
The arrival to the Beagle Channel is amazing: the enormous sky, the
immense sea. Later we will pass an island where we will find Rock Cormorants
and sea
lions. We will continue paddling the Beagle Channel until reaching the Estancia
Harberton. Its two hours of paddling in total, which could be the most exhilarating
two hours of your life!
At the estancia we will visit the remains of the first settlement of Tierra
del Fuego. The history and the architecture will transport you back in time.
Afterwards, we will continue the trip aboard a motor boat with a 15 person
capacity, in which we will sail the Beagle until reaching the Gable Island,
the largest and most beautiful of the uninhabited islands in the Channel. There,
we will enjoy a simple and relaxing lunch in a rustic eatery dating back from
the middle of the past century, where the most impressive ingredient will be
the surroundings!
We
can then take an optional hike of two and a half hours around the island before
boarding the boat again to head to one of the most beautiful places
in Tierra del Fuego—the Martillo Island, the only penguin habitat in
the Beagle Channel. The boat will remain on the beach and will be surrounded
by hundreds of Magellan penguins and various specimens of a larger species
referred to as "Headband Penguins".
Finally, we will arrive again at the Estancia
Harberton from where we will
return to Ushuaia. Only 10 people each day can participate in this incredible
excursion, which lasts between 10 and 11 hours. This is not a very difficult
trip physically and the only requirement is that participants bring a change
of dry clothes and the desire to enjoy a true adventure.
Because the spaces are very limited, we recommend that you reserve yours in
advance. You can obtain information regarding how to book this excursion by
