Paz Palace (Militar Circle now)

Address: Av. Santa Fe 750 – Retiro

This Palace originally belonged to one of the great Argentinean families, for which it keeps its last name: Paz Palace. Dr. José Camilo Paz was once the ambassador in Paris and, later, the founder of the newspaper called “La Prensa” (‘the Press’). In his passing through Paris, he acquired the drafts for this Palace from the French architect Louis Marie Henri Sortaris. The land acquired in Buenos Aires demanded the adaptation of these draft, done by the Engineer Carlos Agote.
Finally inaugurated in 1914, this great Palace pertains in its style to the french traditional architecture responding to the model of french castles protected by watchtowers, constructed by the Loire river, between the XVI and XIX centuries. Since 1938 it belongs to the Círculo Militar(Army Officers Club), comprised by the high ranked portion of the army. It functions as a social venue where different sports, social and camaraderie activities are carried out, and also includes a seigniorial dance hall and a hotel intended for its partners.
