Penguin Rookery and Gable Island includes navigation
This extraordinary excursion will transport you to the most beautiful, rustic and picturesque areas of Tierra del Fuego.
You will leave Ushuaia for the National Route No. 3 and continue through the complementary route J., during this trip you will see the "Árbol Bandera", trees contorted and twisted into incredible shapes due to the Patagonian wind. The order of the activities may vary depending on the weather and on the navigation conditions.
A typical tour begins in Estancia Haerberton, the first to be built in Tierra del Fuego, a place filled with history and legend. From here on, we will continue the trip aboard a motor boat with a 15 person capacity, in which we will sail the Beagle Channel until we reach the Gable Island, the largest and most beautiful uninhabited island in the Channel. There, we will enjoy a simple but comforting lunch in a rustic eatery dating back from the middle of the past century, with a special touch that cannot be matched: the surroundings! The meal consists of a picada (cheese, salami and chips), and an entrée (fish of the region if possible); drinks are also included.
We can then take an optional hike of two and a half hours around the island before boarding the boat again to head to one of the most beautiful places in Tierra del Fuegothe Martillo Island, the only penguin habitat in the Beagle Channel. The boat will remain on the beach and it will be surrounded by hundreds of Magellan penguins and various other specimens of a larger species known as Gentoo Penguins.
Finally, we will arrive again at the Estancia Harberton in order to have tea by the Lasifashaj River. Then, at sunset, we will return to Ushuaia by motor vehicle.
Note:
This is an excursion oriented for those who like walking, even though it does not require special training.
The excursion lasts 10/11 hours and it can be done from November to April.
Lunch, beverages (water, soda and wine) and the snacks (coffee, cookies, etc.) are included. Please give notice in advance in case any of the passengers are vegetarian.
