Upon arrival at Laguna Amarga, travelers complete the required park entry procedures. A transfer then takes them to the area near Cerro Paine Ranch and on to the Welcome Centre at Refugio Torre Central.<\/p>\n<p>Day 2:<br \/>\nTrek to Base Torres Lookout \u2014 8 miles (13 km), 7\u20138 hours.<br \/>\nRecommended start: 9 a.m.<br \/>\nThe trek begins with a 1.5-hour ascent offering views of surrounding lakes and the hanging glacier of Mount Almirante Nieto (8,760 ft \/ 2,670 m), reaching Refugio El Chileno. After 1.5 hours, the first viewpoint offers a distant view of the glacier. The trail then follows the western shore of Lake Grey, reaching the main lookout after another 1.5 to 2 hours. Here, hikers see the glacier, the Olgu\u00edn Range, and floating icebergs. The return follows the same path to Peho\u00e9, where a ferry crosses the lake to Pudeto.
