One of the must-do experiences in El Bols\u00f3n\u2019s Andean Lake District is the hike to the Sculpted Forest.<\/h2>\n

Set high on the slopes of Cerro Piltriquitr\u00f3n, just a few kilometres from the town centre, this remarkable open-air gallery blends art, nature and Patagonia\u2019s dramatic mountain scenery.<\/p>\n

The site features 31 wooden sculptures scattered across a mountainside at 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) above sea level. Reached by a forest trail winding through native Andean woodland, the walk rewards visitors with sweeping views over Lake Puelo and the snow-capped Andes stretching to the Chilean border.<\/p>\n

The story behind this extraordinary place began in the early 1980s, when a devastating wildfire destroyed an ancient lenga beech forest.<\/p>\n

As the trail climbs, the landscape gradually transforms. At first, towering fire-scarred trunks line the path, silent reminders of the blaze. Then, almost unexpectedly, the forest begins to recover, and the first sculptures emerge among the trees.<\/p>\n

The walk starts at the Rustic House, where visitors can gather information, pick up brochures and chat with the local caretakers before setting off.<\/p>\n

From there, the experience unfolds at your own pace. Wandering through this unusual outdoor exhibition is both inspiring and moving, offering a powerful reminder that creativity has the ability to transform even the deepest scars into places of beauty.<\/p>\n

Visitor Information<\/h3>\n

Getting there:<\/strong> From El Bols\u00f3n, follow Route 258 towards Cerro Piltriquitr\u00f3n and take the clearly signposted turn-off to the mountain’s base. Continue for approximately 11 km (7 miles) along a gravel mountain road until reaching the parking area, where the hiking trail begins. The ascent takes between 40 minutes and one hour, with a gentle 30\u00b0 incline suitable for most visitors.<\/p>\n

Recommendations<\/h3>\n

Wear comfortable clothing, sturdy walking shoes and bring plenty of water. During the summer months, it is best to avoid hiking during the hottest hours of the day.<\/p>\n
