The road skirts Rio de las Vueltas, that increases its rapids along its course while its waters become \u00a0more transparent as they get close to the lake. Besides enjoying the beauty of the scenery you can do some navigations as well as go hiking with varying degrees of difficulty. <span style=\"border-style: initial; border-color: initial;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"  title=\"Lago del Desierto\" alt=\"Lago del Desierto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/images\/chalten_lagodeldesierto1.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"170\" align=\"right\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Taking route 23 and after 40 km. you will\u00a0reach\u00a0<strong>this lake that has been a subject of a now settled dispute between Argentina and Chile.\u00a0<\/strong>Take your time, because this is a mountain road and will take you 2 hours to get there.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"line-height: 24px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; font-size: 16px;\" title=\"Lago del Desierto and Huemul Lake\" alt=\"Lago del Desierto and Huemul Lake\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/images\/chalten_lagodeldeseirtoglaciarhuemul1.jpg\" width=\"170\" height=\"240\" align=\"left\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>In spite of the isolation suggested by its name you will see landscapes of spectacular beauty<\/strong>: a tall wood of lengas and \u00f1ires (regional trees), of an intense green colour, with the permanent view of the Fitz Roy and Torre mountains, glaciers and waterfalls.<\/p>\n<p>After 8 km. you will find the northern limit of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/i\/content\/parques\/parques8.php\">Los Glaciares National Park<\/a>\u00a0and at Km 13 you will cross a bridge over the Blanco River. On the right bank of the El\u00e9ctrico River, there is a path leading to the Piedra\u00a0del Fraile shelter (if you want to ascend for 2 hours).\u00a0<strong>If you want to reach the lake, then continue for 29 km. following Laguna del C\u00f3ndor and observe the imposing northeast wall of Mount Fitz Roy and you will be at the southern tip of Lake del Desierto.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"View of Del Desierto Lake\" alt=\"View of Del Desierto Lake\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/images\/chalten_trekkinghuemul_lagodesierto_ch.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"170\" \/>There are also options of navigation on the lake, you can take walks of different degrees of difficulty and you can also choose to spend the night in a camping area with all the services.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Visiting this Lake is one of the most beautiful excursions to do departing from El Chalten.
