
{"id":2204,"date":"2011-10-14T16:39:27","date_gmt":"2011-10-14T19:39:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/?p=2204"},"modified":"2011-10-20T09:38:16","modified_gmt":"2011-10-20T12:38:16","slug":"como-llegar-ushuaia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/en\/how-to-get-to-ushuaia\/","title":{"rendered":"How to get to Ushuaia?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<h2><em>Tierra del\u00a0Fuego\u00a0is an island, so most travelers arrive by plane.\u00a0You can also arrive\u00a0by land\u00a0or sea.<\/em><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"  title=\"View of the city of Ushuaia\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/images\/ush_vista.jpg\" alt=\"View of the city of Ushuaia\" width=\"240\" height=\"170\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel by plane:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are direct flights\u00a0from\u00a0Buenos\u00a0Aires\u00a0to Ushuaia.\u00a0Flight time\u00a0is about\u00a03 \u00bd hours.The frequency\u00a0varies according to\u00a0the seasons,\u00a0although there are always\u00a0at least onedaily flight.<\/p>\n<p>There are also regular flights that connect with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/i\/andina\/glaciares\/calafate.php\">El Calafate<\/a>\u00a0(gateway to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/i\/content\/parques\/parques8.php\">the Glaciers National Park<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Ushuaia has\u00a0an international airport, close\u00a0to\u00a0downtown.\u00a0There is no shuttle service\u00a0but the taxi ride\u00a0is not expensive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel by car:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you want to get here by land you must take a ferry and cross through Chilean territory.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/images\/ush_cartelkms.jpg\" alt=\"Route sign\" width=\"240\" height=\"170\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"5\" \/>There are two crossings:<br \/>\n<strong>By Primera Angostura<\/strong> (Punta Delgada-Bahia Azul). The ferry takes 30 minutes and runs every hour from 8.30 am to 10,15 PM. This is the most used crossing every year. This schedule is for the summer season only. It does not operate under bad weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Punta Arenas-Puerto Porvenir<\/strong>. It takes 2 hours and a half. The schedule: Tuesdays to Saturday 9 am, and Sundays 9.30 Am. It returns every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at 2 pm. Fridays at 3.30 pm and Sundays at 5 pm. Once again, this schedule is for the summer season only.<\/p>\n<p>It is advisable to have reservations made for this second crossing. Reservation phone number in Punta Arenas: 00-56-61-728100.<\/p>\n<p>Both\u00a0crossings\u00a0are operated\u00a0by the company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tabsa.cl\/Eng\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Transbordadora Broom<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel by bus:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There is no way to get directly by land from Buenos Aires<\/strong>. You must go first to R\u00edo Gallegos, there are many companies that offer this service, the travel lasts about 36 hours (there are 2570 km. between both cities).<\/p>\n<p>Once there you have to take another bus in order to make the trip between R\u00edo Gallegos and Ushuaia, which includes the crossing of the Strait of Magellan. The company that makes this trip is called Tecni Austral. You must take notice that you will pass through Chilean territory so you will have to go through customs.\u00a0<strong><\/strong>The trip lasts between 8 and 10 hrs.<\/p>\n<p>There are not direct services between El Calafate and Ushuaia either. There are two options:<\/p>\n<p>a) Via R\u00edo Gallegos: There are several daily frequencies between R\u00edo Gallegos and El Calafate, there are 300 km. of paved road and the trip lasts about 3 hrs.<\/p>\n<p>b) Via Chile: If you choose this option the trip will be: Puerto Natales-Punta Arenas-Ushuaia, and you must take three different buses. The first part of the trip lasts 5 hrs., there is not a long distance, but you must consider the time needed to go through customs. For the second part of this trip there are buses departing every hour since 8 am to 8 pm.
