The prison was built using local materials, and labor was provided by the convicts.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rzbQnAp3yzU\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>For the transport of materials, a xilorail was mounted, that is to say, a train which circulates upon wooden rails. At the end of 1909 the first railway movements were recorded. The \u201cDecauville\u201d rails with a 60 centimeter gauge were put into service and the work of the \u201cPrison Train\u201d began.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In 1952 the \u201cPrison Train\u201d was decommissioned and with it the rude voices of those inmates faded away.<\/strong> Forty two years after its last service, in 1994, the southernmost train in the world, the \u201cPrison Train\u201d, retakes its historic path, reconverted into a fantastic Tourist attraction.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10892\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10892\" style=\"width: 2048px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-FullHD wp-image-10892\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/20180304_085015-2048x3644.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"3644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/20180304_085015-2048x3644.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/20180304_085015-600x1068.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/20180304_085015-1024x1822.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/20180304_085015-768x1367.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/20180304_085015-1200x2135.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/20180304_085015-1536x2733.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10892\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Entrance to the railway<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>An elegant and antique formation of heated wagons, with wide windows and pulled by a steam locomotive, will take you along a 8 Km. long tour departing from the End of World Station up to the Tierra del Fuego National Park Station. <strong>The round trip total time aboard the Train at the End of the World is 1 hour 40 minutes, approximately.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most of the way you will go bordering River Pipo. Leaving behind the Burdal, a characteristic soil of Tierra del Fuego, you reach the final point of the journey, the National Park Station. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patagonia-argentina.com\/en\/parque-nacional-tierra-del-fuego\/\">The Tierra del Fuego National Park<\/a>, with 63,000 hectares, stands out for its combination of coast, mountains and forests.<\/p>\n<p>A good part of the history of Ushuaia is attached to the 14 km of rails that transported the inmates from the prison to the sub-antarctic forests decades ago.<\/p>\n<p>The Austral Fueguino Train, reactivated in 1994 for tourist purposes, gives us back some of that history by emulating the journey of the prisoners who were taken to cut firewood, while paradoxically traveling through dreamlike landscapes straight out of a fairy tale.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is one of the biggest Ushuaia&#8217;s attractions.
