Huemul del Sur N. M.

The huemul is a type of deer that lives in the Patagonic forest, and has grayish-brown hair and big ears. The male has simple horns that are renewed every year. These are rather lonely animals that live either by themselves or in small groups of up to ten.

They usually climb to the high Andean grassy fields in the summer, and down to the valleys in the winter.

This species can be found in Nahuel Huapí, Los Alerces, Lago Puelo, Perito Moreno and Los Glaciares National Parks.

Its unregulated hunting, added to the diseases it has suffered and the changes in its habitat have made its population drop so much that it has become a species in danger of extinction not only in our country, but also in others.
