Yuco, International Crossing Hua Hum and Queñi
Total
Itinerary: 80 km.
The International Crossing Hua Hum is located at 47 km. from the
city.
You will reach the Yuco Park Ranger Station after 20 km.
This is a recreation area with tables and benches, cooking places,
beaches and fishing spots. Motorboating is forbidden here.
12 km. ahead you reach La Angostura. Its name indicates
the place where Lake Lacar flows into Lake Nonthué. Hua-Hum
is further ahead; its name means "rainy place".
This international crossing is the lowest in all the Andes and
remains open year round.
Once in Chile you must take a boat that will take you to Lake
Pirihueico.
Another tour is crossing the bridge over the Hua-Hum river, and
then taking the detour to get to the Chachín Falls, of about
30 m. in height, hidden in the rocks and thick vegetation. This
itinerary is best on a 4x4 vehicle.
An additional 12 km. will take you to Lake Queñi, one of
the most beautiful of the region. There is free camping and you
can take a 3-hour walk to the Queñi hotsprings.
Another interesting tour can be taken from San Martín
de Los Andes through Lakes Lacar and Nonthué to Chachín
and returning to visit a historical chapel on Santa Teresita Island.
(Full day).
