Attractions in town
In
the historical center of Chos Malal lies the Manuel José Olascoaga
Museum. It is located on the street 25 de Mayo besides a small hill. In the
era of the “Campaign to Conquer the Desert” was used by the 4th
Division of the Expeditionary Army as a military barracks. Its construction
dates to 1887. You can see the personal belongings of Olascoaga,
photographs and lithographs, Native People’s artifacts and fossils found
in the area.
Behind this building you will find the Amphitheater of Torreón, where
you can take good photographs with the view of the town. On the other side
of the plaza you will find a tower, and to the left you will find the Cultural
House, where you can buy regional artisan crafts, most of all textiles.
In this same block is the Tourist Information Center, where you can
ask for information about special excursions, such as horseback riding, trekking,
and where to go fishing and road conditions. The streets Sarmiento
and General Paz constitute the real center of the town.
